Who it's for
For anyone who wants to live in Paraguay, whatever their nationality.
Temporary residency is where most people start. It is granted by the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones for up to two years, can be extended for the same period, and is the step you need before permanent residency (Ley 6984/2022, Art. 46). Ordinary temporary residency does not require proof of economic solvency, so you do not need to show income to apply. It also suits remote workers: there is no separate digital nomad visa, and nomads start on ordinary temporary residency. Families can apply together, and children have their own category with no solvency requirement.
What Clarity Paraguay handles for you.
- Checking your home-country documents before you travel: your birth certificate, your criminal record certificate and, if it applies, your marriage certificate, with the right apostille or legalization and a sworn Spanish translation where needed.
- A checklist built for your case, so you know exactly what to gather.
- Getting your local certificates in Asunción, such as the INTERPOL certificate and the Certificado de Antecedentes para Extranjeros from the Policía Nacional.
- Guiding you through the notarized copies Migraciones asks for, covering the full chain of each document.
- Going with you to Migraciones to file your application and sign the sworn statements.
- Following up with the authorities on your behalf until your residency card is issued.

Frequently asked questions.
Do I need to prove income for temporary residency?
No. Ordinary temporary residency does not require proof of economic solvency. That requirement applies later, when you switch to permanent residency.
Can I work and travel while my application is processed?
Yes. Once you file, you hold residencia precaria. By law the precaria card is issued once, is valid for 90 calendar days, and lets you stay, leave and re-enter Paraguay, work and study. It does not guarantee approval.
Do I need to be in Paraguay to apply?
Yes. The Migraciones process is personal and in person. We accompany you to every appointment.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No. It helps, but there is no language test. The paperwork is in Spanish and the appointments are in person, so we are there with you at each one. Most documents that are not in Spanish need a sworn translation, and we tell you which ones.
How long can I spend abroad on temporary residency?
Plan to be in Paraguay at least one day each year. If you spend more than one year abroad during your temporary residency, you cannot switch directly to permanent residency. You apply for an extension of temporary residency instead (Resolution DNM 081/2026, Art. 1).
